About Xcel Project

Empowering Young People in Eskdale

The Xcel Youth Trust is a registered charity based in Langholm, Dumfries and Galloway. Since its inception in 2005, the Xcel Project has been dedicated to providing opportunities and support for young people aged 8 to 24 across the Eskdale community. In 2012, the project became an independent charity, allowing for greater autonomy and growth.

Our Mission

Our mission is to offer recreational facilities and activities for young people in Eskdale, creating an enjoyable and safe environment. We aim to improve their health, education, and opportunities in life, helping them gain new skills and realise their potential in the challenging environment of a small rural area.

Core Themes

Our work is grounded in three core themes:

  • Activity: Providing engaging programs such as youth clubs, holiday activities, and drop-in sessions.
  • Employability: Offering guidance and resources to help young people prepare for their future careers.
  • Leadership: Encouraging youth involvement through volunteering and leadership opportunities.

Our Services

We offer a range of services to support the young people in our community:

  • Youth Club: A longstanding program dating back to the 1970s, providing a safe space for young people to socialize and engage in various activities.
  • Xcel Drop-in Sessions: A drop-in service offering a comfortable environment for older youth to connect and participate in discussions and activities.
  • Holiday Programmes: Organized during school breaks, these programs offer fun and educational activities for young people.
  • Sensory Room: A specially designed space combining various stimuli to help individuals develop and engage their senses in a safe environment.

Our Team

The Xcel Project is supported by a strong and active Board of Trustees, a full-time Manager, Activity Coordinator, a part-time Project Assistant and a casual Youth Worker. They are all supported by enthusiastic and hardworking volunteers, many of whom are under the age of 25.

Whether you’re a young person looking for activities, a parent seeking support, or a professional interested in partnership opportunities, we welcome your involvement. Feel free to explore our website to learn more about our programs and how you can get involved.

What we do

Our work is based on three core themes – Activity, Employability and Leadership. These underpin all our projects and services. These include holiday programmes, youth club, youth cafe, drop-in nights and collaborative projects with local schools.

Xcel’s Youth Information Centre offers safe internet access, social interaction, support and advice as well as information on a wide range of issues and services.

Xcel started as a youth project run by Langholm Community Centre in 2005. We have grown in scale and reputation since then, and became an independent charity in 2012.

We have a strong and active Board of Trustees, a full-time Manager and a part-time Project Assistant who are all supported by enthusiastic and hard working volunteers
